Microsoft reels in VPN specialist
Microsoft has agreed to acquire Whale Communications, a specialist
in secure remote access and web application firewalls. The takeover is meant to
broaden Microsoft's security offerings.
Court backs 'Pentagon hacker' extradition to U.S.
A British court recommended Wednesday that a man be extradited to the U.S. where
he is wanted for allegedly committing the largest-ever attack on the United
States government computer networks -- including Army, Air Force, Navy and NASA
systems.
Flaw in Microsoft Word Used in Computer Attack
Symantec, the antivirus company, warned yesterday that a new and yet-to-be-fixed security
hole in Microsoft Word exposed computer users to cyberattacks.
Vincent Weafer, the senior director at Symantec security response, said yesterday that
would-be intruders had already tried to compromise PC's at a Japanese government agency
by exploiting the flaw. In response, Symantec has raised its ThreatCon to Level 2, which means an outbreak is expected.
Microsoft feeling heat from Google
Microsoft Corp. has held discussions to buy a stake in Internet media company Yahoo Inc. to compete against Google Inc.
